5 Great Things About Sydney Summer

5 Great Things About Sydney Summer

There’s little that compares to summer in Sydney. Its enviable position on the east coast of Australia makes it perfect for beach lovers, while its world-class city centre and cultural scene makes it an absolute must for people who like life in the fast lane.

In summer, both the beaches and the city come to life with festivals, activities, events and fun for everyone. The flowers are out, the people are happy, and there are more ways to enjoy yourself than you can poke a stick at!

Here are 5 great things about
Sydney in summertime:

1. Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is a popular and iconic Sydney beach, but in summertime it is as though it receives an injection of steroids and explodes in its numbers. On a busy summer’s day it can see 40,000 people cross its sands, all looking for a piece of the surf and sand that draws so many visitors each year.

2. Early Morning Breakfasts

Melbourne might have a pub and café culture, but Sydney is definitely the city for early risers who enjoy a nice breakfast out. Sydney’s cafes do a roaring trade in quality breakfast meals, and on any given weekend you’d be hard-pressed to find a table at any inner-city venue without at least a bit of a wait. In summertime, the city’s love of breakfast goes into overdrive, with Sydneysiders choosing to eat al fresco and enjoy their coffees and papers in the sunshine.

3. Festivals

Sydney’s a pretty good city to live in if you like your outdoor music festivals, especially in summer. Whether you’re into electronic music, hip hop, pop, folk or alternative, there’s guaranteed to be a festival that will float your boat. From October through to March, Sydney’s parks and arenas come alive with the sound of live music, and there’s little that compares to dancing in the sun with a cold (if overpriced) beer and some great tunes. Ahh, bliss!

4. The Beautiful People

You may have noticed that Sydney seems to be home to a disproportionate number of gorgeous-looking people. All it takes is a stroll down to Bondi Beach in summer time and you’ll be amazed at the number of toned, bronzed and beautiful men and women strutting their stuff. In summer, the beautiful people really go to town, wearing less and flirting more. It’s a great sight for the rest of us mere mortals, as long as you don’t start to believe that EVERYONE looks like that!

5. Being A Tourist At Home

When you live in a city, you often don’t get around to experiencing the sights in the way that a tourist would, and as a result you miss out on a lot of great times in your hometown! In summer, there’s a great excuse to get out and explore while the weather is good and you’ve got a few days off!

Whether you take a Sydney Harbour cruise and learn about the body of water the city is famous for, or check out some of the many great walks around the beaches, summer is the perfect time to act like a tourist and revel in your city.
