Sydney harbour has many vantage points for the fireworks, these are a few.
• Cremorne Reserve
• Sydney Harbour
• North Head
• Robertson Park
• Sydney Park
1. Cremorne reserveCremorne reserve on the harbour’s northern shore provides a good view of the fireworks for free. Many of the northern vantage points are no alcohol zones, so this aspect should be checked before choosing a northern site. Due to this, these locations attract many families. Also these areas fill quickly so early arrival is recommended.
2. Sydney HarbourFor unobstructed views and a party atmosphere, nothing beats Sydney Harbour Cruises. New Years Eve on the water is a wonderfully romantic and exciting event. The harbour breezes cool the warm night and the celebration is highlighted by full views of the fireworks exploding overhead.
3. North HeadNorth Head is a more remote location to view the fireworks, although they are still widely visible. The area is open to everybody for free, but vehicle access is restricted. Reaching a good viewing location involves some walking. Public transport is not very regular but the town of Manly is very close and transport from there is good. Arriving early is recommended.
4. Robertson ParkRobertson Park at Watson’s Bay is a smaller viewing location. The local council allows people to bring alcohol, so there is a party atmosphere. The area is small but rarely reaches capacity as the view is obstructed. However, it is New Years Eve and any space by the harbour is premium.
5. Sydney ParkSydney Park is another smaller venue. The park is located in the inner city of Sydney and is thus further from the fireworks than the harbour side locations. Sydney Park is very popular with local residents of the neighbouring suburb of Newtown. The venue welcomes alcohol and the locals have a reputation as late partiers. Be aware of this.
Viewing Sydney Harbour New Years Eve fireworks can be a daunting experience. Thousands of people camp overnight to obtain the best spots and tempers can be frayed. Public transport is difficult and crowded and adding drunkenness can lead to some arguments. A good attitude is recommended for all those venturing out on New Year’s Eve. For some visitors, views from accommodation providers can be better than those outside. For example there can be good views from well located City hotels and serviced apartments. Sydney has many options for New Years Eve, and all the city’s residents are anxious to take advantage of them every year.
