Applying for passports - Where do I go to apply for a passport?

Where do I go to apply for a passport?

Where do I go to apply for a passport?

I read an answer you gave in another question here and it's wrong. The answer I read said I could apply at my local post office. I called them and they said that was not offered. How in the heck am I supposed to get a passport then?

Answer:

Hello,

Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused you. In most cases, post offices around the country are authorized to accept first time passport applications.

They will have "acceptance agents" there who not only handle their USPS duties but also are authorized to verify travel documents when someone applies for a passport.

Sometimes court clerks and public libraries are authorized to accept application packages. To see where you can apply for a passport, go to Travel.state.gov facility search and use the free tool there to look up acceptance facilities in your area.
