Denied Passport in Florida Due to Child Support

by dawn
(long island)

My fiance is having a problem with getting his passport due to a child support issue in florida. They are telling him he owes thousands in arrears and this is not true. How can we get this fixed when we are supposed to have a destination wedding Oct 23 2011?

ANSWER:

Hello,

When you have issues with missed child support payments, the government will not issue a passport until the payments have been made.

If the child support payments are up to date or there never was any problem to begin with, you need to contact the state department in Florida that keeps track of child support payments. They will then be able to send an official letter to the US Department of State letting them know you are in the clear. The Passport Agency will then be able to issue a passport.
