My son's passport is expired, does he need another child passport?

Expired Child Passport Question

Expired Child Passport Question

My son is 14 years old and his passport is expired. We have booked our trip already but need to get his passport renewed soon. Do we have to renew it or get a new passport? I'm not sure if he should apply as a child or for an adult one since he will be an adult by the time it expires. Can you tell me?

ANSWER:

Your son will have to apply for a child passport. It will still be valid even when he is an adult as long as it hasn't expired yet. To apply as an adult, your son would have to be at least 16 years old.

Also when a child passport expires, it cannot be renewed. So basically you will have to go through the process again as if it's the first time applying. Hope that helps.
