Our Son's First Vacation
Our greatest vacation was our most recent – thanks to our new addition. Our son was born 10 months before we departed to the Bahamas for a quick stay and for some much needed R&R. As such, we were nervous regarding a few things – the flight, the beach, the hotel room, etc. Still, we felt that this might be something special given how much he giggled and babbled before our 6am flight departed, providing some unexpected entertainment to the weary travelers (including his parents)!
Given our hectic schedule (both my wife and I work two jobs and attend school), it’s tough getting the ideal amount of family time we so often hope to have. That’s why we were looking forward to this trip for months – so we could finally catch up.
As for the memories – there are plenty. From his first small taste of ice cream to his first sand castle to his first dip in the ocean – each little event made this trip that much greater. Every day during our vacation brought a first for him (and us) and that experience is something my wife and I will cherish forever – even if he won’t quite remember it. I now feel like every time he will have an ice cream or play in the sand or splash around in a pool or ocean, I’ll think of this week. What a great feeling to have…
We hope that there are more vacations ahead for all of us, but it’s hard to think they will ever trump this. As he grows, he’ll experience new things and there will be a first time for everything, as they say. But when we think back to some of his “firsts” – I know this week will stand out and my wife and I will say what a great, memorable vacation it was…
