The ultimate honeymoon: backpacking around the world
When it comes to booking your honeymoon, the options are endless. Two weeks relaxing in the Seychelles, trekking the Inca trail, or a long weekend in a Devonshire cottage...
However, for something entirely different - something that takes in multiple cultures - how about backpacking around the world?
Think about it, what a way to really get to know your new spouse. Backpacking could really bring you closer together and give you a real insight into one another's personalities, though at honeymoon stage, hopefully you'll already have a good enough idea!
Firstly, think of the fun you can have preparing for the trip, choosing your destinations, deciding on the route you'll take, what you want to see on the way and your mode of transportation. The world really is your oyster and while many travel companies can offer you prescribed routes, others will let you define your trip from start to finish.
Then you can start doing some research to get an idea of accommodation in each area and what sights you could see. The shopping part is also fun, though you mustn't get so caught up in the fantasy that you forget the important bits: saving enough money, securing the right visas, purchasing sufficient
backpacking travel insurance and getting inoculations.
Backpacking will test your tolerance, your resolve and no doubt at times stretch your ability to be in each other's company. There will be times when you are tired and snappy or fed up with the incessant monsoon rains. Perhaps it might be challenging to stick to that budget and some hostels may not be as luxurious (or clean) as you would like. However, the bad points, guaranteed, will be vastly outnumbered by the good points.
A trip of this scale will also present you with the most amazing shared experiences, leaving you with fond memories forever. Imagine long road trips heading to who-knows-where, laughing in spite of everything or the pair of you being equally dumbstruck as you gaze upon ancient landmarks. The trip will bind you together in ways that you couldn't possibly imagine, strengthening your union.
What a great way to start married life.
